Methylcobalamin is active immediately upon absorption as compared to cyanocobalamin (Cyanide !) that must first be converted to methylcobalamin by the body. Most producers sell cyanocobalamin not methylcobalamin.
My friend won't consume fish and she wanted B-12 and Omega-3(EPA/DHA) since as a vegan those are two ingredients that you can not get from any food except if it is from an animal source. Quinoa and soy offer complete protein but forget about B-12 and omega-3(EPA/DHA), so and I had to do some searching. Amazing amount of chemicals sold with B-12 supplement and I am sure most vegans lack in B-12 unless they take B-12 supplement. Spirulina which is sold heavily as a B-12 supplement is a lie since it is not the same as the B-12 from animal source and just worthless for human body. B-12 in brewer's yeast is another lie just like in any fortified food item since all those are fortified with B-12 since there are no B-12 in any beets, sugar cane or anything unless it is from an animal source. Absolutely shocking amount of chemicals and additives sold with B-12 but with all that she still won't consume fish. My findings are as follows;
SPRING VALLEY: Can not even find any ingredients or nutrition facts anywhere including at their Internet site.
NATURE MADE ingredients: Dibasic Calcium Phosphate, Stearic Acid, Cellulose Gel, Magnesium Stearate, Cyanocobalamin, Croscarmellose Sodium and 16,667%, not 100% but 16,667% Cyanocobalamin. The oral use of cyanocobalamin may lead to several allergic reactions such as hives; difficult breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Less-serious side effects may include headache, nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, joint pain, itching, or rash.
JARROW B-12 Ingredients: Xylitol, cellulose, stearic acid (vegetable source), natural flavor, citric acid and magnesium stearate (vegetable source) and a whopping 83,330%, not 100% but 83,330% Methylcobalamin (Methyl B-12). All the two star reviews on this Jarrow B-12 chemical is from Amazon's Vine Program Reviewers. Meaning all those guys got this chemical for free but yet they all gave it two stars... Getting 83,300 times more dosage does not seem as much as a good deal even for a free product, a free chemical. Amazing.
KIRKLAND B-12 Ingredients: Mannitol, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Crospovidone, Stearic Acid, Methylcobalamin, Silicon Dioxide, Natural Cherry Flavor, Sucralose, Maltodextrin, Magnesium Stearate, Red Beet Root, Citric Acid. Kirkland is taking Jarrow's mix and adding two other chemicals Mannitol and Sucralose, and a whopping 83,330%, not 100% but 83,330% Methylcobalamin (Methyl B-12). Amazing chemicals in amazing dosage.
NOW FOODS Ingredients: Fructose, Sorbitol, Cellulose, Stearic Acid (vegetable source), Citric Acid, Natural Flavors, Silica and Soy Lecithin and 33,330% not 100% but 33,330% Cyanocobalamin. The oral use of cyanocobalamin may lead to several allergic reactions such as hives; difficult breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Less-serious side effects may include headache, nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, joint pain, itching, or rash. The claims of energy should be coming from that Fructose, Sorbitol, etc. which are also known as glucitol, is a sugar alcohol, which the human body metabolizes slowly.
B-12 sold on Amazon is absolutely worthless since all those producers are trying to sell something other than B-12. All producers are selling the none effective synthetic form of B-12 with many added other vitamins and minerals when in fact all they need to sell is pure B-12 but that is why it is sold for less money since consumers are paying for sugar alcohol, Fructose, Sorbitol, Xylitol... Actually he is onto something: See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanocobalamin
It can be a disadvantage to use cyanocobalamin in multivitamins[citation needed] and to use cyanocobalamin to fortify[18] human and animal[20] nutrition.
It is likely that proteins cannot discriminate between bioactive and inactive B12,[citation needed] e.g. cyanide is visible as CN ligand of B12 in Haptocorrin (PDB 4KKI) protein molecule.
Cyanocobalamin is inactive and might occupy the place of vitamin B12 in enzymes
